The Johannesburg Convention Bureau team, part of the City’s Group Communication and Tourism Division, is looking forward to once again hosting exhibitors, delegates and media from across the globe, at Meetings Africa, the continent’s flagship business events expo, set to take place from 19 – 20 February 2013 at the Sandton Convention Centre.
“This past year has been a significant one for the Joburg Convention Bureau team, who have devoted themselves to reviewing, aligning and refocusing their efforts to effectively realise Joburg’s future potential as a significant global player in the business events arena,” says Ruby Mathang MMC for Economic Development, City of Johannesburg.
“2012 saw the launch of South Africa’s National Convention Bureau, a positive move for the industry, but one which demands clearly defining one’s role in the game plan and planning accordingly. Taking this into account, and in line with its revised collaborative business strategy, the Joburg Convention Bureau has recently launched its industry partnership programme, an important milestone in realising its objectives to take the City to the next level in terms of its performance in the global business events sector.”
The Convention Bureau team will be using Meetings Africa 2013 as a platform to reinforce Joburg’s credentials as a vibrant and culturally diverse all year round destination for business events, lifestyle and leisure, the arts, culture, heritage, music, fashion, retail, sports and mega events.
Joburg has successfully hosted Meetings Africa since its inception and the event is steadily growing and increasing its influence year on year as the African continent’s premier business events expo.
“While promoting the South African business events industry to the world, we have to broaden the collaboration to include showcasing what is available in the rest of Africa and leveraging this diversity and potential effectively,” says Mathang.
