Friends tick South Africa off their bucket list to become stars

Camden locals Roxanne Vitalone and Mikaila Faber have returned from the holiday of a lifetime after winning the ultimate ten day trip to South Africa to become the stars of the country’s latest advertising campaign; all thanks to South African Tourism.

Roxanne Vitalone, Janna Zeglis, Mikaila Faber and Melleesa Zeglis enjoyed
a safari sunset over Shamwari Game Park with their guide Ntobeko.

Travelling through Kruger National Park, Johannesburg and Cape Town, Roxanne and Mikaila, along with their friends Melleesa and Janna Zeglis, were selected from around 130 entrants to travel to South Africa and tick many items off their Bucket Lists, including a safari with lions, elephants, giraffes and rhinos in the wild, visiting tiny villages and sunset sailing in Knysna. They were suitably impressed by the Rainbow Nation’s people, its wine, resorts as well as South Africa’s history.

“Our first game drive on safari was such an exciting and memorable experience for me. I was brimming with anticipation as soon as we left and each animal we saw left me feeling more excited and amazed than the one before it,” said Mikaila.

While a favourite part of Roxanne’s trip was the safari, her most memorable experience was visiting District 6 Museum.

“Learning about South Africa’s colourful history particularly during the Apartheid era and seeing how far they have managed to progress and move forward as a nation was so moving. It was such an emotional and heart-felt experience which I’ll never forget,” said Roxanne.

The girls all suited up to ‘swim’ with the sharks during their cage dive.

The four friends also took a bike tour through Soweto, went shark cage diving and engaged with the local community in tiny villages. From her experiences, Mikaila believes there is plenty to do for everyone regardless of age or travel interests.

“South Africa has so much to offer. From cultural and historical experiences, to adventure activities, luxury and pampering. I loved travelling through the Western and Eastern Cape and I think hiring a car is one of the best ways to see the beautiful coastal towns.”

Mikaila is already planning another trip for early next year with the Apartheid Museum, another Safari, and Grootbos Nature Reserve firmly in her sights.

Lalie Ngozi, South African Tourism General Manager Australasia, is pleased the girls enjoyed their trip and is looking forward to showcasing their travel time in South Africa to all kinds of leisure seekers in their next campaign.

“Visiting South Africa is guaranteed to be a life-changing experience and one we are glad Roxanna and Mikaila have been able to experience. It’s so wonderful to hear about, and see the first footage of their adventure. I know they are planning to visit again in the company of their family and friends which is always a great thing to hear,” said Ms Ngozi.

A delicious experience; the girls tasting the many wine varietals of Kleine Zalze.
