Palm Springs Back Into Favour

Palm Springs is hot right now, and not just because it’s summer in the desert. The playground that has attracted the rich and famous for generations is on the rise once again in no small part due to the renewed presence of fine hotels that have attracted a tonier clientele back to the Coachella Valley.

Located just two hours by car east of Los Angeles, Palm Springs is one of those places everyone knows by name but not necessarily by personal experience. Though the city offers several interesting museums such as the Palm Springs Historical Society and the Palm Springs Art Museum, its top attraction is the Palm Springs Aerial Tramway, a Swiss-built rotating cablecar that takes passengers from the desert floor to an elevation of 2600 metres to enjoy a totally different climate and ecosystem atop Mount San Jacinto. The views from the top are, of course, superb. At night, the Palm Springs Art Museum summons visitors to its Annenberg Theater for entertainment often featuring top stars from the film, theatre, and music industries in town for a bit of casual work away.
