New data reveals Aussies have boosted their travel
New bookings data from the world’s leading hotel price comparison platform reveals Hawaii has recently seen strong growth as a holiday destination among Aussies – both in the volume of bookings and the length of stay.
HotelsCombined.com.au is the world’s leading hotel price comparison platform, which attracted seven million bookings globally last year. Its data shows that the volume of bookings across Hawaiian accommodation by Australian tourists grew 11.5 per cent in 2017, compared with 2016.
A significant portion of this growth can be attributed to The Island of Hawaii, which saw a 36 per cent growth in bookings by Australians in 2017. The island of Oahu, however, still attracts the largest volume of bookings – it took in 81 per cent of total bookings in Hawaii last year, and an 11 per cent growth from 2016.
Not only are a greater number of Australians travelling to Hawaii, they are also staying longer. HotelsCombined saw a 12.4 per cent increase in the average length of stay – to 5 nights – by Aussies in Hawaii last year, compared with 2016.
Travellers from Darwin increased their length of stay more than any other State – by a whopping third (32 per cent). This was followed by Hobart, at 27 per cent, Adelaide by 22 per cent, Canberra by 16 per cent, and Perth by 11 per cent.
HotelsCombined has identified July as the peak booking month for Aussies visiting Hawaii, and bookings in July 2017 increased by 34 per cent compared with July 2016.
Hana Kiddle, Campaign Manager at HotelsCombined.com.au, says the data reveals that Hawaii may not have peaked yet among Australian holiday-makers: “Hawaii has long been an attractive holiday hot spot for Australians and our bookings data confirms that the destination is continuing to grow in popularity. Hawaii offers numerous attractive things to do such as shopping, historical sights and memorials, whale watching, snorkelling, hiking and sampling the local cuisine. Its year-round warm temperatures of an average 23-27 degrees make it ideal as a travel destination any time of the year.”
